Babies do not read clocks; they read sequences. When the same steps repeat before sleep, the body learns the script and starts to slow down on its own, because predictability is safety for a small brain. The routine also reinforces the body clock and calms the caregiver, who trades the daily doubt for a familiar autopilot.

On this day you build a short ritual your home can repeat on any ordinary Tuesday, and prepare in advance the emergency version for the nights when everything falls apart.

What you'll learn in the 3 chapters

  1. 1

    Why repetition soothes

You will understand the familiar sequence as the piece of the world the baby controls, the effect that only shows up after a week or two of repetition, and the bonus the routine gives the caregiver.

  2. 2

    Building a 20-to-30-minute ritual

This chapter builds the ritual in three to five steps, from the most stimulating to the calmest, starting inside the wake window, and explains why the order matters more than the items.

  3. 3

What to do when the routine falls apart

Here you learn that the routine is elastic, that one night off script does not erase ten nights on it, and how the anchor steps keep the bedtime signal alive even away from home.
